Job Summary

Gateway Community & Technical College invites applications for a full-time Art Instructor in the Division of Arts & Sciences to teach Introduction to Art (ART 100) courses. A preference will be given to individuals who can also be credentialed to teach Music or Theater. This faculty position will work collaboratively with students, fellow faculty, and staff to ensure the educational needs of the individual learner are met. They will work to empower students to be fully engaged in the learning environment promoting growth and educational development and will provide leadership to support the operation and success of the general education courses in the division. The qualified individual must be flexible in teaching daytime and evening on any/all campuses and through various delivery methodologies.


**Applicants selected for an interview will be required to give a short (approximately 15 minutes) teaching demonstration on the topic to be determined prior to the interview.


10-month faculty contracts span the academic year, typically from August to May, with no course assignments during June and July. Although the contract covers 10 months, the salary is spread over 12 months, ensuring a consistent monthly salary. Benefits are provided year-round. Renewal of the contract depends on factors such as student enrollment and available funding.

Job Duties:

  • Teaches an average of 15 credit credit hours each semester.
  • Teaching assignments may be on one or more of the college’s campuses or offsite locations and may include dual credit, evening and weekend programs, online instruction, and other instructional modalities.
  • Incorporates a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students with differing educational experiences, experiential backgrounds, and learning styles to assist them in meeting course competencies.
  • Evaluates students’ progress toward stated course competencies and inform them of their progress in a timely manner.
  • Provides quality and timely access to students and communicates availability though appropriate methods such as posted campus/office hours and electronic communication.
  • Maintains professional relationships with colleagues, students, and the community.
  • Participates in non-teaching assignments including, but not limited to, instructional development, academic advising, registration assignments, college-wide and/or division activities and committees, professional development, internal and external service
  • Other assigned responsibilities determined in consultation with the Dean.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Art from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Clear verbal and written skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Blackboard.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Experience teaching dual credit courses.
  • Additional teaching credentials in a Fine Arts field, such as Music or Theater.
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations.
  • Experience working at the community college level.
