Job Summary

Provides access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities to ensure institution-wide compliance with the requirements of legal and institution disability policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Disseminates disability information to students to ensure understanding of disability rights and responsibilities.
  • Work with faculty to meet required accommodations for disabilities (note takers, interpreters, adaptive technology, etc.).
  • Drafts, analyzes, and compiles documentation to demonstrate compliance and good-faith efforts with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Delivers training, programs, and resource materials for various group regarding disability services. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 4-6 years of relevant experience
  • This job requires a thorough understanding of Disability Civil Rights Laws as they relate to postsecondary education and the means by which to keep abreast of current Office for Civil Rights and court rulings on higher education disability matters.
  • The Accessibility Service Specialist needs a working knowledge of academic adjustments so as to attain access to information and services for students with disabilities.
  • This position must remain attuned to trends in the field of higher education and disability as well as to improvements in technology.
  • The ability to work well and collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators and students as well as outside community agencies is a must.

  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
