Regional Entrepreneurs and Innovators listen up! Attend this free workshop on intellectual property and business planning basics at the Covington branch of the Kenton County Public Library on Thursday, October 19, between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Regional experts will present insightful information vital for business start-ups as well as established small to mid-sized organizations. See IPAC http://ipac.nku.edu/ for details.

The free workshop is entitled “Entrepreneur Business Basics 101: Initiate, Engage, Connect.” Topics covered include establishing and protecting your company’s intellectual property, developing innovations, improving business performance, and more. Intellectual property for an inventor or entrepreneur often include copyrights, trademarks, and patents. Copyright protects the aesthetic or textual expression of ideas, but not the ideas, for example business websites, computer source codes, promotional literature, etc.

Trademarks differentiate your product and/or service from competitors, while patents protect unique processes, methods, and inventions. NKU’s Steely Library and the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County are official Patent & Trademark Resource Centers (PTRC) designated by the US Patent & Trademark Office. These PTRCs assist inventors, entrepreneurs, and small businesses with their intellectual property awareness.

For more about PTRCs see https://www.uspto.gov/learning-and-resources/supportcenters/patent-and-trademark-resource-centers-ptrcs. The World Intellectual Property Organization www.wipo.int/ stressed that intellectual property is a type of property or asset, just as valuable as physical, real property. Such business property is often taken for granted until it is too late, when a competitor infringes on their copyrights, trademarks, or patents. Business basics will also be included at this free business workshop.

RSVP at http://kentonlibrary.evanced.info/signup/Calendar or phone 859-962-4000.
“Entrepreneur Business Basics 101” is supported by The Intellectual Property Awareness Center (IPAC) at NKU’s Steely Library, The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at NKU, the Kentucky Innovation Network at Covington, the Kenton County Public Library, and others.

For more about this event or intellectual property awareness for your own creative or innovative work, contact John Schlipp, Intellectual Property Librarian and Associate Professor of Library Services at NKU’s Steely Library. John manages the IPAC at Steely Library.
