Retail Team Member

The Retail Team Member serves as the front desk representative for La Soupe by selling food products, maintaining the front of house space, providing a warm and approachable first point of contact for visitors to La Soupe, answering phone calls, and communicating La Soupe’s mission.

Reports to: Retail Supervisor

Payroll type: Hourly (non-exempt)

Days/hours work: Up to 16 hours per week, primarily between hours of 8am and 4pm Thursdays and Fridays; flexibility to cover other shifts, including potentially on Saturdays, is desired.

About La Soupe: La Soupe is Ohio’s largest chef-led nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between food waste and food insecurity. We rescue surplus food and transform it into healthy meals using a unique chef-based model for the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky community. Job Responsibilities:

Operate the front desk at La Soupe

• Warmly greet and assist visitors, including customers, volunteers, partners, and donors
• Answer phone calls with knowledge and professionalism
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the front-of-house space
• Welcome neighbors and connect them with appropriate resources

Sell food and merchandise products

• Know and communicate effectively about ingredients and allergens.
• Understand product well enough to explain & satisfy customers. 
• Manage products with care, including packaging food, monitoring quality, accurately labeling.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts.
• Operate register/POS system. Manage back-end on a basic level such as adding product & updating inventory weekly.
• Be responsible for handling cash transactions and keeping an accurate register.

Be a part of the La Soupe team

• Assist other departments occasionally for pressing needs. 
• Assist the volunteer team with running volunteer tasks in the front room as needed. 
• Help with organizing the front room for classes, events, staff guests, etc.
• Pack up lunch leftovers and clean up the lunch area daily.
• Be knowledgeable about all aspects of La Soupe’s mission.
• Represent the organization effectively and appropriately. 
• Offer useful feedback on the quality of food.

Skills and Education:

No specific education requirements.

Ideal characteristics:

• Careful attention to detail and cleanliness
• Ability to engage warmly with anyone who comes in our front door
• Reliability to cover scheduled shifts
• Ability to navigate POS system and Google Workspace (training provided) 
• Experience in and/or a passion for food
• A passion for the social causes at the core of La Soupe’s mission

Compensation: $17.00/hour

• Sick Days and PTO availability based on scheduled hours prorated against a 40 hour week with periodic adjustment to actual hours worked
